My thoughts about the learning 2.0 @becker

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ANGELA FOR MAKING THE LEARNING 2.0 & BECKER MANDATORY FOR THE NIGHT AND WEEKEND STAFF. I DID ENJOY INTERNET TECHNOLOGIES BECAUSE IT WAS HELPFUL TO ME, AND I FOUND IT TO BE USEFUL KNOWLEDGE TO HAVE.

I thought the luddite test was a great idea, because it gave me a gauge of my current technology savvy which didn't come as to big of a surprise.

Oh, I would like to thank ellen for being so happy to assist at times of great confusion or distress.(that was thoughtful)

I would gladly welcome another project such as this one. Thank you becker, and keep up the good work.

GOOGLE LABS

The tool that I used in google labs was google suggest. Yes, I do think the tool would be useful for other internet users. Yes, I also think it will graduate from the labs to the main google site. I thimk the google suggest tool would be helpful to patrons using our catalog or any database. What I enjoyed most about the tool was that It helps you with your spelling, and helps you in providing keywords for your search. I didn't experience any problems while using the tool, and the features also seem to work as expected.

ON LINE PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS

My impression of 30 boxes in reference to it's features was good. With 30 boxes you can remember birthdays , know what's going on, get stuff done, discover painless organization/sharing. My impression of snip shot in reference to it's features were also good. I took the sample image and resized it, enhanced it, cropped and rotated it. I did like the two applications that I chose. I do think we should explore using them in our daily work. I have no concerns for security and privacy being that It states (see links).

WEB 2.0

I selected the retail tool from the web 2.0 awards list. What I liked about the tool was the different designs of the teeshirts. There wasn't anything that I disliked about the tool. Even though I didn't find any useful features, I found it to be just for fun, and therefore couldn't see any use for it in our library.

YOU TUBE

My experience with you tube was great. The two videos that I selected from you tube were Bill Cosby-dentist, and Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell "ain't no mountain high enough". What I liked about you tube was the 1970's tv commercials and the 60s music videos and how they brought back old memories. I didn't find anything that I disliked about you tube.

SEARCH ENGINES

The three search engines that I chose to compare were yahoo, google, and ask.com. I searched for the st. louis post dispatch, and found that in each search engine the st.louis post dispatch appeared in the top ten results. They all seem to be equally easy to use and I didn't find the results to be clustered by type.

perspectives on web 2.0,library 2.0 and the future

I didn't see how library 2.0 would mean very much to me, but I did see how it does mean something for becker medical library, in that reworking library services to meet the user in their space as opposed to ours (libraries) is extending good customer service to our patrons,and making physical and mindset changes that are occuring in libraries to make our spaces and services more user centric and inviting is also great customer service.

The other online social space that I checked out was my space. One of the features of my space is that it's a place for people to promote their music.In fact I have a girlfriend who lives in california who's into music.She recently emailed me and asked me to check her out on my space. I heard a few of her songs.Maybe she'll make it big one day.

I logged into facebook and read several of the groups within the washington university's network, and the group that I was most interested in was the summer in kenya,2006,which holds 11 members and is a geography-countries type of group. I find this group to be most interesting because I have always wanted to visit other countries, but would be afraid to If I was not as a group
